Battle of Sudoku: A Multiplayer Sudoku Showdown
Love Sudoku? Want to challenge friends or compete in teams? Battle of Sudoku is a multiplayer version of the classic puzzle game. The goal remains the same: fill a 9x9 grid with digits so each column, row, and 3x3 subgrid contains all digits from 1 to 9.
Game Setup and Difficulty:
Before starting, choose a difficulty level (1-6) in the game options. 1 is easiest, 6 is hardest. This setting determines the number of pre-filled digits, impacting the challenge for all players simultaneously. Every player receives the identical puzzle.
Game Modes:
Two modes are available, configurable in the game options:
- "Show correct numbers of your opponent": Each correctly placed number is visible to all players, earning points for the first player to correctly place it. Duplicate numbers are prohibited.
- "Hide correct numbers of your opponent": Players cannot see each other's correct numbers, allowing for simultaneous placement of the same number and earning points accordingly.
Time-Outs and Penalties:
Incorrect number placements result in a time-out, preventing the player from making further moves while others continue. The time-out duration is customizable (default: 30 seconds). Incorrect numbers also deduct points (half the value of a correct placement).
Scoring and Winning:
Points are awarded for correct placements, with higher difficulty levels yielding more points per correct number. The game ends when the puzzle is completely solved. The player with the most points wins. In the "hide correct numbers" mode, the game ends when one player solves the puzzle, but this doesn't grant extra points; other players can still win based on fewer mistakes.
Team Play:
A team play option allows two teams to compete. Players select their team (1 or 2) upon joining. A minimum of two players per team is required. Team points accumulate collectively, and notes/filled colors are shared within teams, enabling collaborative strategies.
Solving Tools:
A toolbar under the puzzle provides tools for solving:
- Pen Tool: Add notes (mini-numbers) to squares. Selecting a number already present in a square removes it.
- Fill Mode: Change the background color of any square (including solved ones).
