SoMoGa Inc. has relaunched Vay, a classic 16-bit RPG, on Android, iOS, and Steam. This updated version boasts enhanced graphics, a modernized user interface, and controller support, breathing new life into the original 1993 Sega CD release.
Initially released in Japan and later localized for the US by Working Designs, Vay received an iOS re-release by SoMoGa in 2008. This latest iteration builds upon that legacy.
What's New in the Revamped Vay?
The revamped Vay features over 100 enemies, a dozen challenging bosses, and exploration across 90 diverse areas. A notable addition is the adjustable difficulty, catering to various player preferences.
Convenience is enhanced with an auto-save function and Bluetooth controller compatibility. Players can acquire new equipment and items, and characters level up, learning new spells. An AI system allows for autonomous character combat.
The Story:
Set in a distant galaxy scarred by a millennia-long interstellar war, the narrative centers on a colossal, malfunctioning machine that crashes into the technologically underdeveloped planet Vay. This machine, programmed for destruction, wreaks havoc.
Players assume the role of a protagonist whose wedding day is disrupted by an attack, resulting in the abduction of his wife. This sets the stage for an epic quest to rescue his bride and potentially save the world from the destructive war machines.
Vay delivers a captivating story blending nostalgia with modern enhancements. True to its JRPG roots, characters gain experience and gold through random encounters. The game includes nearly ten minutes of animated cutscenes with English and Japanese audio options.
