HBO's "The Last of Us" Season 2 will feature cut content from the original video game, "The Last of Us Part II," according to showrunner Neil Druckmann. Druckmann described the restored content as "pretty brutal," including elements from the game's "Lost Levels," partially reinstated in the PlayStation 5 remaster. These levels, such as "Jackson Party," "The Hunt," and "Seattle Sewers," offer a range of tones, from the relatively peaceful party scene to the intense horror of Ellie's encounter with monsters in the sewers.

This restored content, along with the introduction of a previously unmentioned, "pretty prominent" character (similar to Season 1's handling of Frank), promises a gripping narrative. The season will introduce numerous new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, with Catherine O'Hara in a currently undisclosed role.
Season 2, premiering in April, will likely leave some mysteries unresolved. Unlike Season 1, which adapted the first game completely, "Part II" will span multiple seasons. Showrunner Craig Mazin has indicated that "Part II" contains a substantial amount of material, suggesting a potential Season 3, even though it's not yet confirmed. Season 2, however, is designed with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
