Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode Doubles Main Quest Completion Rate
Activision reports a significant boost in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies main quest completions thanks to the introduction of Directed Mode. While many players prioritize survival in the wave-based Zombies mode, Directed Mode has successfully engaged a larger portion of the player base with the game's overarching narrative.
Since its inception in World at War, the Call of Duty Zombies mode has featured a complex, evolving storyline. Despite a decline in the overall Black Ops 6 player base, the Zombies mode retains a dedicated community. However, the challenging gameplay often prioritizes survival and weapon upgrades over story completion. Initially, only 4% of players completed the main quest.
Launched in Season 1, Directed Mode acts as a guided experience, streamlining progression through the story. Activision's data, based on 480 million hours of gameplay, reveals that Directed Mode has nearly doubled the main quest completion rate to 8.23%. While this represents a substantial increase, Treyarch acknowledges that the vast majority of players (over 90%) still haven't finished the main quest and are exploring further improvements.
Directed Mode: A Key Improvement
Included in Season 1 alongside three new maps and two additional game modes, Directed Mode provides structured guidance through the intricate Zombies storyline. This is particularly beneficial given the storyline's complexity, involving elements like interdimensional travel and time manipulation, which can be daunting for new players. Previous installments offered less direction, leaving players largely to decipher the narrative on their own.
The success of Directed Mode suggests a promising avenue for enhancing player engagement with the narrative. Treyarch plans to continue refining both the Zombies mode and Directed Mode in future updates to further improve main quest completion rates.
