Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, shared during a 4Gamer interview on January 23, 2025, alleviates concerns among PlayStation fans following the staggered releases of previous installments.
Release Date and Development Progress:
While Square Enix remains tight-lipped about a concrete release date, Hamaguchi offered a positive update during a Famitsu interview on the same day. Development, initiated alongside FF7 Rebirth, is progressing smoothly, with a key milestone achieved by the end of 2024. Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the completed storyline, hinting at a fulfilling conclusion for fans.
Timed Exclusivity Expected:
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report suggests PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the precedent set by previous games (one-year exclusivity for FF7 Remake, six months for Intergrade, and a similar period for Rebirth before its January 23, 2025 PC release), Part 3 is likely to follow suit.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift:
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's financial report (March 31, 2024) revealed declining HD title sales. In response, the company announced a strategic shift towards a multi-platform approach, encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This suggests that while Part 3 will initially launch on PS5, a wider release across other consoles and PC is likely to follow its timed exclusivity period.
