Excitement is building among Nintendo fans following the discovery of new Nintendo filings hinting at the potential release of a new GameCube controller. This development has sparked speculation that the controller might be designed for use with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, enhancing the experience of playing GameCube classics through the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service.
As reported by Nintendo Life, an FCC filing for a "game controller" from Nintendo aligns with the Switch 2, suggesting it could be a wireless Bluetooth controller. The internet community, particularly on Famiboards, has delved into the filing and pointed out that one of the images shows a label location reminiscent of the back of a GameCube controller, positioned behind the C-Stick.

While there's a possibility this could be a Switch 2 Pro Controller, current speculation leans towards its compatibility with the Nintendo Switch Online service, which already offers wireless classic controllers for retro gaming.
This has led to increased anticipation for a GameCube library to be added to Nintendo Switch Online. Fans have been eager for GameCube classics to make their way to the Switch, but until now, Nintendo has focused on re-releasing titles from the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy through its subscription service. Could the Nintendo Switch 2 finally bring GameCube games back in a significant way?

The Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled in early January with a trailer that highlighted its backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details remain undisclosed, including the full lineup of games and the purpose of the mysterious new Joy-Con button. The Joy-Con mouse theory has been a topic of discussion among fans.
Last month, a Nintendo patent hinted that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers might be able to attach upside down, suggesting a new design using magnets instead of the rails found on the original Switch. This design could allow for greater flexibility in button placement and headphone port positioning, potentially leading to innovative gameplay mechanics.

Analysts predict that the Switch 2 will be priced at around $400, though some speculate it could go as high as $500. June has been mentioned as a possible release month. While much about the Switch 2 remains a mystery, Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2 to reveal more about the console.
In the meantime, fans can enjoy a taste of GameCube nostalgia with Metroid Prime Remastered, available on the current Nintendo Switch.
