Big changes are coming for Netflix Games subscribers who enjoy Grand Theft Auto on Android. Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City are leaving the Netflix Games platform next month.
Why are these GTA games leaving, and when?
This isn't a sudden decision. Netflix licenses games similarly to movies and shows, and the licenses for these two GTA titles are expiring. You'll see a "Leaving Soon" notification on the games before they're removed. The initial 12-month agreement between Netflix and Rockstar Games is ending on December 13th. After that date, Netflix subscribers will no longer have access to GTA III and Vice City.
If you're currently playing either game, it's time to finish up! However, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains available on the platform.
Where can I play these games after they leave Netflix?
You can purchase the Definitive Editions of Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City from the Google Play Store. Each game costs $4.99, or you can get the entire trilogy for $11.99.
Unlike the removal of Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest last year, Netflix is providing advance notice this time. This is somewhat surprising, given that the GTA trilogy contributed significantly to Netflix Games' subscriber growth in 2023.
There are rumors that Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on potential future releases, possibly remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars. Let's hope this rumor proves true!
