MultiVersus Season 5: A Last Stand?

Industry insider AusilMV, known for accurate game leaks, suggests that Season 5 of MultiVersus could be its final season if it fails to perform well. A reliable source reportedly informed AusilMV that the season is a last-ditch attempt to revive the game's flagging popularity. While currently just a rumor, the situation is undeniably precarious.

The game's initial launch in 2022 saw explosive success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent Steam players. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, controversially labeling it an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates occurred in May 2024, but the game hasn't regained its initial traction.

Season 5, launching in early February, represents a critical juncture for the developers. It's arguably their final opportunity to recapture player interest and potentially avoid the game's complete demise.

This relaunch, marketed as Season 5, follows the initial 2022 release, retrospectively termed a "beta" by the developers. Despite the game's initial popularity, the developer's decision to temporarily shut down the game in June 2023 (following a March announcement) caused significant backlash, particularly among players who had purchased the premium edition.
