Golden Globe Win for Reznor and Ross Boosts Anticipation for Intergalactic Soundtrack
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the musical minds behind the upcoming Naughty Dog game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, have added another accolade to their impressive resume: a Golden Globe for Best Original Score. The award recognizes their work on Luca Guadagnino's film Challengers.
The recent Intergalactic trailer showcased a preview of Reznor and Ross's composition, alongside licensed tracks featured in the game. Known for their long-standing collaboration with Nine Inch Nails and acclaimed scores for films directed by David Fincher and Pete Docter, the duo previously won an Academy Award for The Social Network and Soul, along with numerous Grammys, an Emmy, and a BAFTA. Reznor also has prior experience composing for video games, notably providing the soundtrack for 1996's Quake and the theme for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Accepting the Golden Globe from presenters Elton John and Brandi Carlile, Ross described the Challengers score as "never…a safe choice, but it always felt like the right one." The contemporary, electronic score perfectly complements the film's edgy athleticism and sensuality. Given their current creative momentum, the Intergalactic soundtrack is poised to be a standout.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's Golden Globe Win
While the creators of Nine Inch Nails' industrial rock might seem an unconventional choice for game and film scores, Reznor and Ross have consistently demonstrated versatility. Their work ranges from the haunting soundscapes of The Social Network to the ethereal beauty of Soul. Their involvement with Intergalactic, a game rumored to have horror elements, appears particularly fitting.
The Golden Globe win further amplifies the excitement surrounding Intergalactic, potentially a significant departure for Naughty Dog. Given their spotless track record, the soundtrack promises to be exceptional, regardless of the game's final form.
