While Thailand may be a world away from the magical halls of Hogwarts, Jason Isaacs, known for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films and currently starring in The White Lotus Season 3, shared his intriguing choice for who should take over his iconic role in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series. In a recent interview with Variety, Isaacs suggested none other than the versatile Meryl Streep.
"Meryl Streep," Isaacs declared, praising her boundless talent. "She can do anything, that woman. There's literally no limit to what she can do." Streep has previously showcased her ability to embody diverse characters, including playing an elderly male rabbi in the HBO miniseries adaptation of the epic play Angels in America. Given her past performances, it's plausible to think she could adeptly take on the role of Lucius Malfoy.
Isaacs first brought Lucius Malfoy to life in the second Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and continued to portray the character through the series, culminating in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. As for the new adaptation, only one casting decision has been officially announced: John Lithgow will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore, previously portrayed by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.
Rumors are circulating about other potential cast members. Paapa Essiedu from Black Mirror is reportedly in talks to play Severus Snape, originally brought to life by Alan Rickman, while Janet McTeer from Jessica Jones is said to be close to being cast as Minerva McGonagall, a role famously played by Maggie Smith. However, these remain unconfirmed at the time of writing.
