Konami Unveils Mobile Suikoden: STAR LEAP

Suikoden is back! Well, sort of. Konami and MYTHRIL have announced Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG for Android and iOS, slated for free-to-play release later this year. While a firm release date remains elusive, anticipation is high.

For the uninitiated, the Suikoden series, originally conceived by Yoshitaka Murayama and published by Konami since 1995, is a beloved RPG franchise loosely based on the classic Chinese novel Water Margin. Known for its intricate political narratives, True Runes, and the iconic 108 Stars of Destiny, the series boasts eleven entries (including spin-offs), with the last main installment released in 2012. Instead of a direct sequel or full-fledged revival, Konami is delivering Suikoden STAR LEAP – a mobile game experience.

What Awaits in Suikoden STAR LEAP?

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh cast of characters while retaining the series' signature gathering of 108 heroes. The game embraces pixel art, preserving the classic Suikoden aesthetic. See for yourself:

The story centers on the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that shaped the world. The protagonist, Hou, son of a village chief, celebrates his first successful hunt when disaster strikes—his village is attacked, setting him on a journey with Hisui (his mysterious servant), Shirin (his childhood friend), and Shapur (a former general turned butler) to restore peace.

While excitement is palpable, the game's gacha mechanics have sparked mixed reactions within the community. Long-time fans eagerly awaited a traditional sequel, and the mobile gacha format represents a departure from expectations.
