Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series based on the Forgotten Realms setting, according to Deadline. The project, one of Netflix's largest fantasy TV investments, is spearheaded by Shawn Levy (director of Deadpool and Wolverine), writer-showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed), and Hasbro. The series will follow in the footsteps of the successful film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and the popular video game Baldur's Gate 3, both also set in the Forgotten Realms. While Netflix and Hasbro remain tight-lipped, Deadline reports that Crevello has penned the pilot and will serve as showrunner. The series' success could potentially launch a wider D&D universe on the platform.

Despite the promising outlook for the Netflix series, the future of a Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves sequel remains uncertain. While star Chris Pine expressed his desire for a sequel and confidence in its development, no official announcements have been made. Paramount's CEO, Brian Robbins, indicated openness to a sequel, but only if the budget is significantly reduced. Meanwhile, Amazon's Secret Level anthology series features a D&D animated segment.
