The popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals has been a major hit on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, but its developer, NetEase, has been clear that it won't be coming to the Nintendo Switch. However, there's good news for Nintendo fans with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a Switch 2 release. Wu's response was encouraging for Switch enthusiasts: "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, and while details on its capabilities are still sparse, it's expected to be a more powerful version of the original Switch. One exciting feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, making it feel more akin to a PC experience. However, the exact implementation of this feature remains to be seen.
Currently, the Nintendo Switch 2 does not have a confirmed release date, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, which may provide more information. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is available on other platforms and has received high praise, earning an 8/10 in our review, where we noted that it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the game on February 21.
