Marvel Snap, developed by California-based Second Dinner and published by ByteDance's Nuverse, was unexpectedly removed from iOS and Android app stores on January 18, 2025. This ban, affecting other ByteDance apps like CapCut and Lemon8, left many players frustrated and without warning. While access is unavailable on mobile platforms, PC users can still enjoy the game via Steam.
Second Dinner expressed surprise and disappointment, assuring players via an official Platform X statement that they are actively working to reinstate the game: “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.” The lack of prior notice is particularly concerning, as players continued making in-app purchases before the ban.
Interestingly, the impact on other ByteDance apps was uneven. While Marvel Snap was removed, titles like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain accessible.
Recent additions to the game, such as the Moonstone card, have generated significant discussion. Moonstone, a 4/6 cost Ongoing card, presents a powerful meta-shifting capability. Her unique ability to copy the Ongoing effects of 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane allows for rapid power generation, surpassing the capabilities of similar low-cost Ongoing cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent. The existing pool of affordable Ongoing cards makes Moonstone's potential even more impactful.
