The Armadillo, a passive mob introduced in Minecraft's 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, inhabits various warm biomes. Its tough scutes are crucial for crafting wolf armor. Here's how to acquire them:
Acquiring Armadillo Scutes:
Armadillos reside in warm biomes, spawning in groups of two or three. Approaching cautiously is key, as they defensively curl into a ball when startled.
These biomes are prime hunting grounds: Badlands, Eroded Badlands, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Windswept Savanna, and Wooded Badlands.
Two methods exist for obtaining scutes:
-
Passive Collection: Similar to collecting chicken eggs, an Armadillo sheds a scute every 5-10 minutes. This requires patience but no tools.
-
Brushing: The more efficient method involves a crafted brush. This tool gently removes one scute per use.
Brush Mechanics:
A brush, crafted using a feather, copper ingot, and stick (placed centrally in the crafting grid), can be used multiple times before breaking. In Java Edition, it's four uses; in Bedrock Edition, five. Damaged brushes can be repaired using an anvil, preserving enchantments if present.
Possible brush enchantments include Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing.
To collect scutes, approach Armadillos slowly, avoiding their defensive roll, and use the brush. Multiple brushes yield numerous scutes for crafting wolf armor (six scutes per suit).
Once you've gathered enough scutes, craft the wolf armor at a crafting table. These methods currently represent the only ways to obtain and utilize Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft.
