Monster Hunter Wilds Nears 1 Million Peak Concurrent Players on Steam — and It’s Only Going to Get Bigger From Here

by Mila Apr 15,2025

Monster Hunter Wilds has made a monumental entry into the gaming world, achieving a remarkable launch with nearly 1 million concurrent players on Steam. Launched across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game quickly soared to become the eighth most-played game on Steam of all time, boasting an impressive peak of 987,482 concurrent users.

To put this achievement into perspective, Monster Hunter Wilds has surpassed the all-time concurrent player peaks of popular titles such as Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, and Baldur’s Gate 3. It has also eclipsed the performance of its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, which reached a peak of 334,684 concurrent users on Steam in 2018. It's important to note that the true peak concurrent figure for Monster Hunter Wilds is likely to be even higher, as neither Sony nor Microsoft disclose player numbers.

As Monster Hunter Wilds approaches its first weekend on sale, the question on everyone's mind is how much further the Steam concurrent player count can rise. There's a strong possibility that it will break the 1 million concurrent players mark today, potentially overtaking Cyberpunk 2077. Speculation even extends to whether it could reach 2 million concurrent players.

While Capcom has not yet released official sales figures for Monster Hunter Wilds, the signs are all pointing to a blockbuster release. For reference, Monster Hunter World achieved over 25 million sales in six years, securing its place as Capcom's best-selling title ever. However, the game has received a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, with some players citing performance issues.

IGN's review of Monster Hunter Wilds awarded it an 8/10, stating: "Monster Hunter Wilds continues to smooth off the rougher corners of the series in smart ways, making for some extremely fun fights but also lacking any real challenge."
