Expand Your Stardew Valley Farm Family: A Guide to Multiple Pets

One of Stardew Valley's greatest charms is the diverse range of animals you can welcome to your farm. This guide details how to acquire multiple pets, expanding your farm's furry, feathered, or shelled inhabitants beyond the initial single companion.

Unlocking the Multi-Pet Potential:

Initially, Stardew Valley limited players to a single pet per save. However, the 1.6 update changed this, allowing for multiple animal companions. To unlock this feature, you must first maximize your existing pet's friendship level. This involves:

  • Daily Hydration: Ensure your pet's water bowl is full each day using your Watering Can (except on rainy or snowy days).
  • Daily Affection: Pet your animal once daily; a heart bubble confirms a successful interaction.
  • Friendship Meter: Monitor your pet's friendship level via the "Animals" tab in the pause menu.

Once the friendship meter is full, Marnie will send a letter informing you of additional pets available at her shop. If you skipped adopting a pet in your first year, this letter arrives at the start of Year 2.

Adopting Your New Companions:

Essential Pet Supplies:

Before or after adopting, visit Robin's carpentry shop to commission Pet Bowls (5,000g and 25 Hardwood each). These bowls serve as your pets' homes and prevent friendship decay. Neglecting them can lead to your pets running away.

Marnie also sells optional decorative items like doghouses and cat trees, which don't affect friendship levels.

With these steps, you can create a thriving, multi-pet menagerie on your Stardew Valley farm. Enjoy your expanded animal family!
