Warner Bros. Games Shutting Down MultiVersus

Multiversus Season 5 Will Be Its Last Season

MultiVersus’ official Twitter (X) account announced on January 31, 2025, that the game will be shutting down permanently on May 30, 2025, following its fifth and final season. In an official blog post, Player First Games and Warner Bros. stated that "our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game."

Season 5 of MultiVersus is set to commence on February 4, 2025, and will run until May 30, 2025. This season will introduce two new playable characters: DC’s Aquaman and Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny. The blog post assures players that "all new Season 5 content, including Aquaman and Lola Bunny, will be earnable through gameplay." Once Season 5 concludes, MultiVersus will no longer be available for download on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store.

No official statements have been released by MultiVersus regarding the reasons behind the shutdown.

Moving Forward With MultiVersus’ Offline Mode

Following the end of Season 5, MultiVersus will transition to an offline mode. Players can enjoy the game "via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends." To access this feature, players need to download the latest version of MultiVersus during Season 5, from February 4 at 9 AM PST to May 30 at 9 AM PDT.

After logging in, the game will automatically generate a local save file linked to the players’ PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, enabling them to continue playing MultiVersus offline with all their earned and purchased content.

Real money transactions for MultiVersus were halted on January 31, 2025. Gleamium, the game's premium currency, can no longer be bought in the online store. However, players with existing Gleamium can still use it to access in-game content until the end of Season 5.

MultiVersus First Opened Public Beta In 2022

MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, offering a free-to-play fighting game reminiscent of Super Smash Bros., but with a unique 2v2 team-based format. From July 2022 to June 2023, the open public beta rolled out several updates and two seasons of content. The game was relaunched in May 2024, introducing new features like additional characters, rollback netcode, a new PvE mode, new currencies, and more.

Despite these enhancements, the relaunch failed to meet fan expectations due to persistent technical issues, frequent disconnections, and dissatisfaction with the game's microtransactions. By July 2024, MultiVersus experienced a 70% drop in player count on PS4 and PS5.

MultiVersus will officially cease operations on May 30 at 9 AM PDT, featuring 35 playable characters from various franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed their gratitude, stating, "We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025.
