Nintendo has officially responded to the buzz created by accessory maker Genki, who showcased a 3D-printed mockup of what they claimed to be the next-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2, at CES 2025. Read on to find out Nintendo's stance on these rumors!
Nintendo Says Mockup Is Unofficial
Nintendo has clarified to both CNET Japan and the Japanese newspaper Sankei that "these images and videos are not official." They emphasized that the hardware showcased by Genki as the Switch 2 was never provided by Nintendo. This statement puts to rest any speculation that Genki had access to official Nintendo hardware.
At CES 2025, Genki made waves by not only displaying a 3D-printed mockup of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 but also claiming to possess a "real" version of the console and even hinting at a release date.
Genki, an American brand known for its range of electronics and video game console accessories—including controllers, portable SSDs, and chargers—has a dedicated section on their website for Nintendo Switch 2 accessories. This section features a detailed animated mock-up of the console, fueling further speculation.
Despite these claims, Nintendo has remained relatively silent about the Switch 2, promising only that more news will be released soon. The only official detail confirmed by Nintendo is that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with the original Switch and its games. Given the current buzz, Nintendo may be compelled to make an official announcement about the console in the near future.
