Nintendo Switch 2 Direct: April 2, 2025
After months of speculation and leaks, Nintendo finally unveiled the Switch 2. A short teaser trailer, released January 16th, showcased a refined design while retaining the hybrid functionality of its predecessor.The teaser revealed a larger screen and a more robust kickstand. The Joy-Cons have been redesigned with magnetic connection, replacing the original rails. A new USB-C port on the console itself was also confirmed.
Crucially, Nintendo confirmed backwards compatibility. Both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games will be playable, although some titles may have limited or no support. Nintendo is hosting "Nintendo Switch 2 Experience" events in major cities worldwide, offering hands-on opportunities before launch.
Ticket registration opens January 17th, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. PT / 2:00 P.M. CT / 3:00 P.M. ET, closing January 26th, 2025, at 11:59 P.M. local time for each location. A random selection process will determine attendees, with notification following registration. A Nintendo Account is required.
