Path of Exile 2's Endgame Rituals: A Comprehensive Guide
Path of Exile 2 introduces several endgame events, including Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. This guide focuses on Rituals, a revamped mechanic from previous leagues. We'll cover initiating events, mechanics, the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, the Pinnacle boss (The King in the Mists), and the unique Tribute and Favour reward system.
Identifying and Initiating Ritual Events
On the Atlas map, Ritual Altar nodes are marked with a red pentagram icon featuring a demonic face. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, slotted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen node.
Once in a map with a Ritual, several Altars will appear. Each map features a shared random modifier impacting enemy types and mechanics. Modifiers might include massive rat swarms or life-draining pools of blood.
To activate a Ritual, interact with an Altar after noting its modifiers. A large circular area will illuminate; remain within this zone to fight the summoned enemies. Leaving the zone prematurely ends the event without rewards. A map is considered complete only after all Rituals are successfully completed.
The King in the Mists Pinnacle Boss
The 'An Audience With The King' currency item, obtained through Favours, unlocks a fight with The King in the Mists, located in The Crux Of Nothingness. This boss shares mechanics with the Act 1 Cruel difficulty version found in Freythorn (useful for practice). Defeating him grants 2 Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at unique items exclusive to this event, powerful currencies, and Omen items.
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessed via the Atlas Passive Skill Tree screen (bottom right), modifies Ritual events. Nodes enhance rewards, reduce Tribute requirements, and increase unique currency drop chances. Each victory over The King in the Mists provides 2 skill points, requiring increased boss difficulty with each new Notable node.
Notable Nodes and Prioritization:
Notable Node | Effect | Requirements |
---|---|---|
Promised Devotion | 25% increased Altar skill damage; 50% less Tribute and faster Favour appearance for Deferring Favours | N/A |
From The Mists | 2 extra enemy packs in Rituals | N/A |
Reinvigorated Sacrifices | Revived monsters gain Toughness and damage, but no longer penalize Tribute | From The Mists |
Spreading Darkness | 4 Ritual Altars per map | N/A |
Between Two Worlds | Always includes a Wildwood Wisp (increased Tribute) | Spreading Darkness |
Ominous Portents | 25% faster monster waves, 50% increased Omen chance in Favours | N/A |
He Approaches | 20% chance for revived monsters to be Magic or Rare; 50% chance for 'An Audience With The King' | Ominous Portents |
Tempting Offers | Extra Favour re-roll; 25% cheaper re-rolls | N/A |
Prioritize 'From The Mists', 'Spreading Darkness', and 'Ominous Portents' first for increased rewards with minimal drawbacks. Then, focus on 'Tempting Offers' and 'He Approaches' for better Omen and 'An Audience With The King' chances.
Rewards: Tribute and Favours
Completed Rituals grant Tribute, a temporary currency to purchase Favours (randomized items). More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock more Favours, including high-tier currencies and Rare gear. 'An Audience With The King' is exclusively obtained through Favours.
Omen Currencies: These powerful, consumable items significantly improve other Currency item effects. Examples include focusing Annulment or Alchemy orb modifiers. They are highly valuable and can be traded for numerous other high-value currencies.
Additional rewards include high-tier currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.) dropped by enemies. The King in the Mists has a chance to drop Uniques from a pool exclusive to the Ritual event.
