In recent days, the gaming community has been buzzing with rumors suggesting that Santa Monica Studio was poised to make a significant announcement at an upcoming event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the iconic God of War franchise. The speculation was fueled by claims that classic God of War remasters would be unveiled, with these rumors gaining traction after being echoed by industry insider and journalist Jeff Grubb. This sparked considerable excitement among fans eagerly anticipating the reveal.
To manage fan expectations and clarify the situation, Santa Monica Studio issued a direct statement. They announced that the event would indeed be a celebration of the past two decades of the God of War series, featuring a star-studded lineup of Greek and Norse characters. However, they firmly stated that no new game announcements or remaster reveals would be part of the event.
Santa Monica Studio's full statement reads:
"Pantheons collide! We’re thrilled to present a lineup of Greek and Norse characters for this panel celebrating the 20th anniversary of God of War where we’ll reflect on the past two decades of the series. Given the star-studded lineup and the anticipation surrounding this milestone, we want to make it clear that no announcements are planned for this event."
Instead of game announcements, attendees were treated to new thematic artwork featuring Kratos and Jörmungandr, adding to the festive atmosphere of the event. Additionally, the panel will feature special appearances by actors from the God of War series, including Terrence Carson, the voice of Kratos, and Carole Ruggier, who voiced Athena. This exciting panel is scheduled to take place on March 22.
