Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the much-anticipated successor to their 2022 roguelite hit, Returnal. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively for the PlayStation 5, and optimized for the PS5 Pro, Saros promises to deliver another thrilling experience. The game features Rahul Kohli in a starring role, adding a new layer of intrigue to the narrative.
Showcased during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros embodies the signature style of Housemarque. Players will step into the shoes of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for truth on a treacherous, ever-changing planet. This world is shrouded in mystery, haunted by an eclipse and dominated by at least one formidable entity. The game's theme of "come back stronger" hints at its roguelike nature, while the display of fireballs suggests the bullet-hell gameplay that Housemarque is known for.
According to creative director Gregory Louden, **Saros** represents the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. While it introduces a fresh single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action mechanics established in **Returnal**.However, Saros isn't just a repeat of Returnal. Louden highlighted on the PlayStation Blog that a significant gameplay difference lies in the use of permanent resources and progression. In Saros, the world transforms with each player death, yet players can also permanently enhance their weapons and suits, adding a new layer of strategy and progression.
Fans can look forward to more details later this year, as Housemarque plans to reveal an extended gameplay demonstration.
