Smite 2's Open Beta Launch: A New Era for the MOBA
Get ready! Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular MOBA, launches its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the Unreal Engine 5-powered game, which entered alpha in 2024.
This open beta isn't just about access; it's a substantial content drop. Alongside the launch, players will welcome Aladdin, the first God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, adding a unique Magical Assassin/Jungler to the roster. Aladdin boasts wall-running and lamp-based enemy trapping abilities. The update also brings back beloved Gods from the original Smite, including Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni, each with revamped skill sets.
Expect a significantly expanded God roster. While the alpha featured 14 Gods, the open beta will boast nearly 50, with a projected total nearing 45 by the end of January 2025.
New Game Modes and Features:
The open beta introduces exciting new game modes:
- Joust (3v3): An Arthurian-themed map featuring teleporters and stealth grass for strategic gameplay.
- Duel (1v1): Utilizing the same map as Joust, offering intense one-on-one combat.
The innovative "Aspects" system adds a strategic layer. Players can sacrifice a God's standard ability for a powerful alternative. For instance, Athena's teleport shield can be traded for a teleport-based enemy weakening ability. Initially, 20 of Smite 2's 45 Gods will have Aspects, with more to come.
Quality-of-life improvements are also included, such as Role Guides, improved in-game messaging for new players, PC text chat, enhanced item store navigation, and detailed death recaps.
Esports Debut:
The Smite 2 esports scene will also take center stage. The first Smite 2 esports tournament finale will be held at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas from January 17-19.
Availability:
Smite 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Join the free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025, and experience the next generation of Smite!
