Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.
This change, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, signifies a shift in Sony's strategy. The PlayStation Blog post stated that PS4 games will become less frequent additions to the monthly games and Games Catalog offerings. However, previously acquired titles will remain accessible, and Games Catalog games will stay available until their scheduled removal.
Sony emphasized its commitment to enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience, highlighting continued benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company cited a player shift towards PS5 gaming as the primary reason for this adjustment, noting increased redemption and access of PS5 titles.
The future of PS4 games within the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog (currently featuring PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles) remains unconfirmed. Further details are expected closer to the implementation date.
