Updated on January 12, 2025, by Demaris Oxman: With the release of the 1.6 update, Stardew Valley has seen both major and minor changes, including new avenues for obtaining the elusive Prismatic Shard. Some existing methods have been tweaked as part of the game's rebalancing efforts. This article has been refreshed to reflect these updates, ensuring that all information is current with the latest version of the game.
Prismatic Shard Locations
There are multiple potential spots where you might find a Prismatic Shard, though the odds are generally slim:
- Once you reach the bottom of the Mines, every monster has a 0.05% chance of dropping a Prismatic Shard.
- A 0.09% chance for it to appear in the chum bucket of a Fish Pond filled with
Rainbow Trout. The pond must have at least 9 fish to activate this possibility.
- A 0.1% chance to drop from Serpents and Mummies in Skull Cavern, or from Wilderness Golems and Iridium Golems once you reach Combat Level 10.
- A 0.4% chance to be found inside an
Omni Geode or a
Mystery Box.
- A 0.79% chance to appear inside a
Golden Mystery Box.
- A 3.5% chance to drop from an Iridium Node in Skull Cavern, the Volcano Dungeon, or the Quarry.
- Approximately a 3.8% chance of discovering one in a Treasure Chest in Skull Cavern.
- A 25% chance to drop from a Mystic Node (a dark blue stone with curlicue patterns) in Skull Cavern, the Quarry, or the Mines at floors 100 and above.
- A 25% chance to be found in a meteorite that crash-lands on your farm.
- One Prismatic Shard is available in a chest upon your first completion of the Volcano Dungeon.
- If
Emily is hosting a stall at the Desert Festival, she will sell one Prismatic Shard for 500
Calico Eggs.
The most consistent way to obtain Prismatic Shards is through the Statue Of True Perfection, which generates one shard daily. However, earning this statue is no small feat; it's awarded for reaching 100% perfection, as tracked by the Perfection Tracker in Mr. Qi's Walnut Room on Ginger Island. Prismatic Shard Uses
These gemstones have a multitude of applications in Stardew Valley. Donating one to the Museum is essential for the "Complete Collection" achievement. They can also be sold for 2000g each, but their utility in gameplay might be more appealing to many players.
Crafting & Bundles
The Prismatic Shard is one of six options for the Missing Bundle, necessary to unlock the Movie Theater. This bundle becomes available in the abandoned JojaMart after you complete the Community Center.
In multiplayer mode, the Prismatic Shard is crucial for crafting the Wedding Ring, which you can use to propose to another player. Besides the vibrant gem, you'll need 5
Iridium Bars. The recipe can be purchased from the Traveling Cart for 500g.
Gifting
The Prismatic Shard is a Loved gift for all villagers except Haley, making it a valuable item for building relationships with your favorite characters. While most villagers have other Loved gifts that are easier to come by, the Prismatic Shard can be a powerful tool for enhancing your connections with NPCs.
Weapons
A single Prismatic Shard is needed to acquire the Galaxy Sword, one of the premier weapons in Stardew Valley. To claim it, bring a Prismatic Shard to the Calico Desert and stand at the center of the three obelisks; the shard will transform into this legendary weapon.
Players can also combine Prismatic Shards with Cinder Shards to enchant tools and weapons at the Volcano Forge on Ginger Island. These enchantments can imbue your items with magical enhancements.
Trades
On Thursdays, the trader in the Calico Desert will exchange one Magic Rock Candy for three Prismatic Shards. This candy offers substantial boosts to Mining, Attack, and Defense, along with smaller increases to Luck and Speed.
For a darker trade, you can take a Prismatic Shard to the Witch's Hut and interact with the Dark Shrine of Selfishness. This action will transform your children into doves, permanently removing them from the game.
Quests
Currently, the only quest involving Prismatic Shards is Mr. Qi's Four Precious Stones, accessible in the Walnut Room. To complete it, you must deliver four Prismatic Shards to Mr. Qi by the specified deadline.
