Following the successful launch of Quidditch Champions this week, Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed its intentions for a continuation to last year's Harry Potter-based action RPG phenomenon Hogwarts Legacy—2023's best-selling game.
Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Intentions Confirmed by Warner Bros. DiscoveryAnticipated in a “Couple Years Down the Road”
Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed it has plans for a sequel to action RPG hit Hogwarts Legacy—the Harry Potter-based best-selling game of 2023 with over 24 million copies since its release. Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels stated that the company intends to develop a sequel during the Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, according to news outlet Variety.
"Obviously, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road," Wiedenfels said. "So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here."
Warner Bros. Games's David Haddad noted in an interview earlier this year with Variety that the game's replayability has been a huge draw for fans. "Many players have gone back and played the game more than once," Haddad said. And it's not just the units sold and its replayability that the company is proud of, he added, "It brought Harry Potter to life in a new way for gamers where they could be themselves in this world, in this story."
This aspect of the game is what Haddad believed to have truly "resonated so well" with the community and has helped Hogwarts Legacy become the best-selling game of the year. He added, "That’s a position that typically is held by one of these incumbent’s sequel games and we’re so proud that we’ve been able to break into the top ranks."
Game8 was especially impressed with how Hogwarts Legacy looked overall, and we believe that it stood to be the most astounding visual experience a fan of Harry Potter could ask for. For more on our thoughts on Hogwarts Legacy, click on our review at the link below!
