WoW Delays Plunderstorm Release

The highly anticipated second Plunderstorm event in World of Warcraft has faced a delay due to unforeseen issues. While World of Warcraft aims to have Plunderstorm up and running before the end of January 14, eager fans will need to wait a bit longer to dive back into this exciting pirate-themed battle royale mode introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024. The event, which was set to return on January 14, 2025, promised both returning and new rewards for players to collect.

The initial six-hour maintenance for Plunderstorm was extended to eight hours, with server restart planned for 3 PM PST. However, according to a statement from WoW community manager Kaivax during the extended maintenance period, "unexpected issues" have pushed back the event's launch further than originally anticipated. Although the team at World of Warcraft is working diligently to resolve these issues before the day is out, no specific new launch time has been announced yet.

When is Plunderstorm Live in World of Warcraft?

  • Before the end of January 14, once "unexpected issues" are resolved

In the meantime, World of Warcraft's normal servers are back online, allowing players to engage in other activities while waiting for Plunderstorm. You can complete your Siren Isle weeklies, start the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or explore other aspects of The War Within.

The second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces new features like the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible while logged in. It's possible that these new additions are related to the unexpected issues causing the delay. Hopefully, World of Warcraft can resolve these quickly so players can return to plundering soon.

Despite the delay, World of Warcraft's new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops are still available. By watching four hours of any Twitch streamer in the World of Warcraft category before February 4 at 10 AM PST, you can earn the Coward’s Azure Target back transmog. The streamer doesn't need to be playing Plunderstorm for you to progress toward this reward, so you can start earning it while waiting for the game mode to go live.
