Starting the Quest
Complete Chapter 2 ("What Yesterday Wept, Today Doth Sing") to unlock this quest. It's highly recommended to finish the main storyline before exploring Rinascita extensively, as many side quests are locked behind Chapter 2, Act 3 completion. After completing the main quest, locate Cosimo in Egla Town, Whisperwind Haven. He's near the first house by the main road, marked by a blue quest marker.
The Night Reveries
This involves a performance about a knight who defeated a giant. You must defeat the Mad Knight, who only appears at night (18:00 to 06:00). Find him at the town's central pool. This enemy isn't difficult; use your strongest attacks.
Mimic Chests
After defeating the Mad Knight, go to the tallest tower, then fly to Carlow's location (marked on your map). He's unconscious near a large purple flower. Interact with the flower to enter an instance where you must identify a real chest amongst mimics. The first three chests are genuine. In the next set, only the second chest (middle-left) is real. Open it for Astrites and other rewards, but be prepared to fight the remaining mimic chests.
The Knight's Trail and Strange Scent
Follow quest markers and talk to NPCs to visit locations the legendary knight supposedly visited.
After speaking with Mr. Millkeeper, Abby mentions a strange smell. Follow the marker uphill to encounter a unique Chop Chop with invulnerable Leftless and Rightless. A Questless Knight Echo is recommended for parrying and stunning the Chop Chop. Mr. Millkeeper reveals the "legendary knight" was a fabrication; he and other Windmill Keepers were the protectors. Carlow runs off.
Finding Carlow
Return to Egla Town during the day and find Carlow in a town plaza. He's confronted by knights. He challenges one to a duel, abandoning the fantasy and embracing true protection. The quest concludes after Carlow's challenge, rewarding you with Union XP, Astrites, and resources.
