During its journey, the cuckoo faces challenges, including getting wounded, which leads to a longing for home. Eventually, the bird decides to return, embarking on a remarkable trip back. It joins a caravan, crosses the sea aboard a pirate's ship, and travels through Spain and France. Upon returning home, the cuckoo resolves to migrate to Africa every winter, thus becoming a true migrant bird.
Each location in the story comes alive with music reflective of the local culture. From the rhythmic sounds of a desert caravan to the vibrant Spanish malagueña, the lively French musette, and the thrilling tunes of a wild boat ride, the tale is enriched with diverse musical styles.
