It appears that Hulu might be bringing back the beloved character Buffy Summers, with Variety reporting that a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is in the works. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who originally portrayed Buffy, is in talks to return to the series, though this time as a recurring character. The new show will focus on a different Slayer, offering fresh perspectives while still connecting to the original storyline.

Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao, celebrated for her work on Nomadland and Eternals, is reportedly in discussions to helm and executive produce this reboot. Additionally, Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are set to write and serve as showrunners, bringing their creative vision to the project. Notably, Joss Whedon, the creator of the original series, will not be involved in this new iteration.

While plot details remain under wraps, the series is expected to introduce a new Slayer to the Buffyverse, with Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role. The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed Buffy Summers, a high school student destined to fight vampires, demons, and other supernatural beings, supported by her close-knit group of friends, including Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and her Watcher, Rupert Giles.

The original show ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003 and spawned a spinoff, Angel, as well as a series of canonical comic books that continued the story. It's worth noting that during the production of the original series and its spinoff, Whedon faced allegations of fostering a toxic work environment.
