Deadlock has unveiled its most significant update in months, transforming its four-lane map into a three-lane structure. Dive into the details of these upcoming changes and the latest updates for Deadlock.
Deadlock Announces Major Update
Four-lane Map Transforms into Three Lanes
Deadlock's latest major update shifts its map from four lanes to three, streamlining the map structure and enhancing various game features. Valve shared the full details of this map rework on Steam on February 26, 2025, along with adjustments to other mechanics.
The redesign encompasses converting the four lanes into three, accompanied by "a broad spectrum of map-wide changes including visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, and more." Deadlock, already known for its unique third-person MOBA approach, had introduced a fourth lane to the conventional three-lane map, which posed some complexity.
Additionally, the update introduces changes to farming enemy troopers, eliminating the need for last-hitting to summon Soul Orbs, which simplifies early laning phases. The patch notes also mention enhancements in the game's netcode and client performance.
A Vital Update for Deadlock
This update could be the catalyst Deadlock needs to revitalize its community and reignite interest in the game. In September 2024, Deadlock experienced a surge in its active player count, reaching an all-time peak of 171,490 players. However, the game saw a 90% decline in player count over the subsequent months, with around 17,000 players this past month.
Valve Developer Yoshi announced on Deadlock's Discord server in January 2025 that the team would adjust their update schedule. Yoshi explained, "Moving forward, major patches will not adhere to a fixed schedule. These patches will be more comprehensive than before, though slightly more spaced out, with hotfixes continuing to be released as needed. We are excited to further develop the game in the coming year."
Deadlock is actively in development and undergoing playtesting, accessible only through friend invites. There are no official announcements yet regarding a specific release date for the game. For more information about Deadlock, visit our dedicated page.
