Wolcen Studio has announced Project Pantheon, a free-to-play action RPG incorporating extraction shooter mechanics. A closed alpha test begins January 25th in Europe, expanding to North America on February 1st.
Game director Andrei Cirkulete describes the game as a blend of "the tension and risk-reward of an extraction shooter with the battle dynamics of a combat RPG," hinting at influences from titles like Diablo and Escape from Tarkov. The team is keen to receive player feedback during the alpha.
Players assume the role of a Death messenger, striving to restore order to a ravaged world. Gameplay involves battling AI and other players across diverse maps. Successful evacuations preserve hard-earned trophies, while failed attempts result in complete loot loss.
The game offers extensive customization, including base building, equipment personalization, and diverse playstyles. The world draws inspiration from global mythologies, with player trading forming the core of the in-game economy.
The initial alpha will focus on "Destiny's Edge," a region inspired by Scandinavian folklore. Despite its early development stage, the developers pledge active community engagement to shape the game's evolution.
