An Elden Ring player's unique challenge: conquering Messmer the Impaler daily until Elden Ring: Nightreign launches. This dedicated gamer, known as chickensandwich420, is documenting his incredible feat.
A Daily Grind: No-Hit Messmer Battles
Instead of passively awaiting Nightreign's release, chickensandwich420 devised a demanding self-challenge: defeating Messmer, a notoriously difficult boss from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, every day. The twist? He uses a different weapon each time, aims for a no-hit run, and plays on NG+7.
His YouTube channel chronicles this ongoing endeavor, beginning December 16, 2024. Initially planning a broader FromSoftware boss challenge, his university studies led him to focus on this single, grueling task.
Messmer's infamy precedes him. Players report needing 30 to over 150 attempts to defeat him, even with optimal gear. chickensandwich420's undertaking is truly remarkable.
However, there's a deadline: June 2025. If Nightreign doesn't release by then, the challenge expands to other games. This sets a limit of approximately 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's on day 23.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, a three-player co-op spin-off, is anticipated in 2025. But FromSoftware's release timelines are notoriously flexible. Will chickensandwich420's dedication be rewarded with a timely release, or will a delay bring an end to his epic Messmer marathon? Only time will tell.
