Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking fans on an exciting journey set after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. In this new series, iconic characters Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are at the forefront, working tirelessly to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Penned by Alex Segura, who previously captivated audiences with his work on the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, this latest volume promises to be a thrilling continuation. The artwork will be brought to life by Star Wars veteran Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Noto, along with Leinil Yu, will also provide the covers for the much-anticipated first issue.
Segura and Noto's Star Wars is set roughly two years post-Return of the Jedi, following the pivotal Battle of Jakku. This marks the dawn of a hopeful new era as the New Republic strives to become the galaxy's new governing force. However, Luke and his companions will encounter new challenges as various villains, from pirates to thieves, exploit the power vacuum left by the Empire's downfall.
“Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
“Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them,” Noto added. “I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”
Mark your calendars for May 7, 2025, when Star Wars #1 hits the shelves, perfectly timed to coincide with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
Marvel isn't stopping there; in February, they will launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, a new comic that delves into Kylo Ren's journey post-The Last Jedi.
