Overture DLC Not Linked to Base Game's Final Cutscene, Says Lies of P Director

by Claire Apr 16,2025

Since the announcement of the upcoming DLC for *Lies of P*, titled *Overture*, fans have been buzzing with speculation about the mysteries it might unveil. However, at the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN uncovered that one particular mystery—the enigmatic final cutscene of the base game—won't be explained in the DLC. For those yet to finish *Lies of P*, the cutscene in question teases future directions for the game's universe without spoiling the plot. This twist has sparked intense fan theories about its implications and whether it would be addressed in the DLC. Yet, *Lies of P* director Jiwon Choi clarified that this cutscene isn't connected to the DLC, leaving fans with more questions than answers. Choi cryptically added, "Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

With Neowiz already announcing a sequel to *Lies of P*, it's likely that the mysterious cutscene is hinting at developments for *Lies of P 2*. However, details about the sequel remain scarce, with Choi keeping his cards close to his chest during our conversation. He emphasized Neowiz's commitment to quality, stating, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

The cutscene in question, known as the Dorothy scene, was the focus of our discussion with Choi. As detailed here, it features Paracelsus on a phone call, mentioning his intent to find "Dorothy," another key to their plans. The scene then reveals Dorothy's iconic striped socks and ruby slippers, suggesting that future *Lies of P* content might intertwine with other public domain fairy tales. While intriguing, Choi confirmed that *Overture* won't delve into this plot point.

Choi did, however, provide some insights into what fans can expect from *Overture*. He encouraged players to replay the base game, pointing out that it contains numerous hints about the upcoming DLC: "When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience," Choi explained. "A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in the expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that, are going to be included in the expansion."

Choi also hinted that some fans are already piecing together Neowiz's plans, admitting that he regularly reads online fan theories and finds some of them "quite close" to the mark.

Additional details about *Overture* include an estimated playtime of 15-20 hours for experienced players. The DLC will be accessible after players reach a "certain" chapter in the game and will remain available until the end. As previously announced, *Overture* is set as a prequel, transporting the main character back in time to Krat just before its fall. Players can look forward to new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons, though Choi was keen on keeping the specifics under wraps for the release.
