Lost Soul Aside's PC Release to Forgo Controversial PSN Linking Requirement
Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will reportedly launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market considerably, as PSN support isn't available in over 100 countries.
Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack and slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. Sony, the publisher for both PS5 and PC versions, initially mandated PSN account linking for its PC releases, a decision met with significant player backlash.
The removal of this requirement for Lost Soul Aside was seemingly confirmed after its Steam page went live. While initially listed as requiring a PSN account, the SteamDB update history shows this mandate was quickly removed. This makes Lost Soul Aside only the second Sony-published PC game to drop the PSN linking rule, following a similar reversal for Helldivers 2.
This decision suggests a potential shift in Sony's strategy for PC releases. The poor performance of some PlayStation PC titles following the implementation of PSN linking, such as God of War Ragnarok, which saw significantly lower player counts than its predecessor on Steam, may have influenced this change. By removing the requirement for Lost Soul Aside, Sony aims to maximize the game's reach and sales potential. The specific reasons behind this decision remain unconfirmed, but the move is undoubtedly positive news for PC gamers worldwide.
