Veilguard Fans Celebrate No DRM DecisionBut No Preload for PC Gamers
"Veilguard won't use Denuvo on PC. We trust you," Dragon Age: The Veilguard project director Michael Gamble
shared on Twitter (X). Digital rights management (DRM), like Denuvo, is anti-piracy software popular with publishers like EA, but unpopular with players, especially PC gamers, due to potential performance problems. Players celebrated BioWare's decision. "I support this. I will buy your game at launch. Thank you," one user replied to Michael Gamble.
Veilguard confirms it won't require always-online play, as Gamble stated. However, the no-DRM decision means "no preload period for PC players." This disappoints some players, as Veilguard needs at least 100GB of storage. Console players can preload. Xbox early access players can install now; PlayStation early access players can install October 29.
Alongside the confirmation of Veilguard omitting Denuvo, BioWare released the system requirements today. "Players with powerful PCs will be able to leverage our suite of Ray Tracing features and uncapped frame rates. For the minimum PC specs, we focused on making the game as accessible to as many players as possible," BioWare said. "For consoles (Playstation 5 & Xbox Series X|S), there will be fidelity and performance modes, targeting 30 and 60 FPS respectively." To have all the Ray Tracing effects enabled on PC, your system requires either Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X with 16GB of RAM, as well as Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics cards. For more information on Dragon Age: The Veilguard, such as gameplay, release and preorder info, news and more, check out the related articles linked below!
