Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio Composer Leads New Tactical Stealth RPG
Guns Undarkness Demo Arrives at Steam Next Fest
Mark your calendars! Guns Undarkness will launch a free demo during the upcoming Steam Next Fest. This exciting project brings together a dream team: Shoji Meguro (music), Ilya Kuvshinov (character art – known for his work on Ghost in the Shell), and Lotus Juice (rapper, famed for his contributions to Persona 3).
Meguro, a veteran composer at Atlus since 1995, has crafted soundtracks for beloved titles like Shin Megami Tensei and the Persona series. In 2021, he transitioned to independent game development while continuing his work with Atlus. Since then, he's been developing this sci-fi stealth action JRPG, published under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.
Initially revealed at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and successfully funded via a Kickstarter campaign in 2022 (reaching all stretch goals!), Guns Undarkness will offer its free demo starting February 24th, 2025, during Steam Next Fest, with early access planned for later in the year.
Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona
Blending the tactical stealth of Metal Gear Solid with the engaging RPG elements of Persona, Guns Undarkness throws you into a near-future world (2045) teetering on the brink of collapse. As a member of a private military company, you'll embark on crucial missions alongside your allies, unraveling the mysteries that threaten humanity's survival.
Gameplay seamlessly integrates stealth and turn-based combat. Utilize the environment to your advantage during stealth sections, gaining a tactical edge in battles. Engage in strategic turn-based combat, commanding your squad and utilizing a variety of firearms to overcome your foes.
The demo offers approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, providing a taste of the core mechanics including tutorials on controls, the battle system, weapons, and early-game strategies. Early Access is slated for Spring 2025 on PC, promising around 10 hours of playtime. A precise release date is yet to be announced.
