Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving a Resurgence for the Classic Action Title
Released late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has exceeded expectations, recently surpassing 200,000 units sold. This sales milestone demonstrates significant player demand, despite initial launch challenges including technical issues and some controversy surrounding content changes.
Developed by Dragami Games (the original was by Grasshopper Manufacture), this remaster of the cult classic action game boasts enhanced visuals and improved gameplay. The title retains its signature blend of over-the-top action and quirky charm, placing players in the role of Juliet Starling, a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling hordes of zombies. The game's success spans current and last-gen consoles, as well as PC. This sales achievement was announced via a tweet from Dragami Games.
The original Lollipop Chainsaw, released in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, achieved even greater success, selling over one million copies. Its unique appeal stemmed from the collaboration between renowned game designer Goichi Suda (Grasshopper Manufacture) and filmmaker James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), who contributed significantly to the game's narrative.
While future plans for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remain unannounced, its sales success bodes well for remasters of other cult classic titles. This positive reception follows the recent release of another Grasshopper Manufacture title, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, which has also seen success on modern platforms. The strong performance of these remasters suggests a growing market for revisiting beloved, niche games.
