The failure of the Halo TV series hasn't deterred Microsoft from pursuing further video game adaptations. Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer confirmed this, promising more adaptations in the future. Speaking to Variety ahead of the Minecraft movie release, Spencer highlighted the learnings from both the Halo and Fallout adaptations, stating that these experiences are building confidence for future projects. He acknowledged some adaptations will inevitably miss the mark, but emphasized that more are coming due to the gained experience and growing confidence.
The question now is: which Xbox game will be adapted next? Netflix announced a live-action Gears of War film and animated series in 2022, though updates have been scarce aside from Dave Bautista’s expressed interest in playing Marcus Fenix.

Speculation abounds. The success of Fallout might make an Elder Scrolls/Skyrim series appealing to Prime Video, although Amazon's existing fantasy projects might suggest otherwise. Sony's successful Gran Turismo movie raises the possibility of a Forza Horizon film from Microsoft.
Microsoft's ownership of Activision Blizzard opens doors for a Call of Duty movie or a renewed attempt at a Warcraft adaptation. Jason Schreier's book, Play Nice, revealed previously shelved Netflix projects for Warcraft, Overwatch, and Diablo; Microsoft could potentially revive these. A family-friendly adaptation of Crash Bandicoot also seems plausible, given the success of other animated video game movies. A Fable adaptation, timed with the 2026 reboot, is another intriguing possibility. Even a second attempt at a Halo movie remains on the table.
In contrast, Microsoft's competitors, Sony and Nintendo, are further ahead in this space. Sony boasts successes like the Uncharted movie, HBO's The Last of Us, and Twisted Metal, along with announced projects such as Helldivers 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, and a God of War TV series. Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. Movie is a massive success, with a sequel and a Legend of Zelda live-action adaptation in the works.
