Phantom Blade Zero: Development Insights and Gameplay Expectations

Phantom Blade Zero, an eagerly anticipated action game, is set to redefine the gaming landscape in 2025. With its unique blend of intense combat and expansive exploration, the game is poised to offer players a thrilling experience. Phantom Blade Zero: Not a Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options

Phantom Blade Zero Playtime Estimated to be 20-30 Hours with Adjustable Difficulty

Phantom Blade Zero is distancing itself from the Soulslike genre despite initial comparisons drawn by fans due to its aesthetic and combat style showcased during the PlayStation Showcase 2023. The game will offer four difficulty levels: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. This move sets it apart from traditional Soulslike games, which are known for their singular, challenging difficulty.

Game Director Soulframe took to social media to clarify that the team never intended to create another Soulslike game. Instead, their vision is to deliver a "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating." While Phantom Blade Zero draws inspiration from Soulslike games in terms of map design, featuring multi-layered maps and hidden areas, Soulframe emphasized that "the similarities stop there." He described the game as a fusion of "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," promising a unique blend of hack-and-slash action with extensive exploration.

Recent interviews have provided a wealth of information about Phantom Blade Zero's gameplay. Players will have access to an impressive arsenal, choosing from 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons, each with distinct gameplay mechanics and effects. The main story is expected to take around 20-30 hours to complete, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content, ensuring a comprehensive gaming experience.

Boss fights will be a highlight, featuring at least two phases. If players fail during the second phase, they can restart directly from there, skipping the first phase. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," allows players to challenge previously defeated bosses, unlocking hidden bosses for further conquest.
