Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 7 launched recently, and player reaction has been significant. Following Patch 7's September 5th release, over one million mods were installed, according to Larian Studios' Swen Vincke. "Modding is quite popular - we had more than a million mods installed in under 24 hours," Vincke tweeted. Further, ModDB and mod.io founder Scott Reismanis reported over 3 million installs and climbing, "Just ticked over 3m installs and accelerating," Reismanis replied to Vincke's post.

Patch 7 included various additions, such as new villainous endings, improved split-screen functionality, and Larian's Mod Manager. This integrated tool lets players easily search for, install, and manage community mods within the game.

Existing modding tools are accessible as a standalone Steam application, enabling modders to create content using Larian's Osiris scripting language. Mod creators can also import custom scripts and perform basic debugging, with direct publishing options from the toolkit.

BG3 Cross-Platform Modding Potential

Additionally, as spotted by PC Gamer, a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked"—uploaded by modder Siegfre on Nexus—includes a complete level editor and reactivates previously deactivated features in Larian's editor, according to the news site. As Larian had initially been wary about granting players full access to all of its development tools. "We are a game development company, we're not a tools company," Vincke previously told PC Gamer, noting that while players have significant creative freedom, not all tools from the development process would be supported for users.

According to Vincke, the studio intends to support cross-platform modding—a feature that Larian is actively developing, adding that the undertaking "is not the easiest thing in the world because we have to make it work on consoles and on PC." "We'll start with the PC version," he explained. "The console version will follow later because it has to go through several submission processes. It also gives us time to observe any issues and rectify them."

Besides modding, BG3's Patch 7 brought numerous other features to the game. Players can anticipate a more refined experience with enhanced UI elements, new animations, extra dialogue options, and numerous bug fixes and performance enhancements. With more updates from Larian likely to come, we may anticipate hearing more about the studio's plans for cross-platform modding.
