Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart recently provided an update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed, confirming that both projects are progressing well despite past challenges.
Positive Progress on The Outer Worlds 2
In a recent interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart expressed his confidence in the Outer Worlds 2 team, highlighting their experience and dedication. He stated that development is "going really well," emphasizing the team's understanding of the game's core elements, built upon their work on the first installment.
Overcoming Development Hurdles
Urquhart acknowledged significant hurdles faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and post-Microsoft acquisition. The simultaneous development of multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment, created considerable strain. He candidly admitted a period of slowed development, even considering halting The Outer Worlds 2 to focus on Avowed. However, the studio persevered, ultimately completing Grounded and Pentiment successfully.
Urquhart confirmed that Avowed is "looking great," and The Outer Worlds 2 is "looking incredible," although specific details remain undisclosed. The delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential schedule adjustments for other projects.
Addressing Delays and Future Expectations
While acknowledging the lack of recent updates and the possibility of further delays, Urquhart reaffirmed Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality games. He admitted that initial timelines may not be met, but expressed confidence in the eventual release of both titles for PC and Xbox Series S/X.
