Pokemon TCG Pocket: Paralyzed, Explained (& All Cards with ‘Paralyze’ Ability)

by Nova Jan 04,2025

This guide explores the Paralysis condition in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, cures, and strategic applications. The Paralysis effect immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a turn, preventing attacks and retreats. This guide covers the key differences between Paralysis and the Asleep condition, and how the Paralysis mechanic functions in Pokémon TCG Pocket compared to the physical card game.

Paralyzed: What It Is and How It Works

Paralyzed Effect

Paralysis prevents the Active Pokémon from attacking or retreating for one turn. The effect automatically ends before the opponent's next turn begins.

Paralysis vs. Sleep

Both Paralysis and Sleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralysis automatically resolves, while Sleep requires a coin flip or specific counter-strategies to cure.

Paralysis in Pokémon TCG Pocket vs. Physical TCG

While the physical TCG offers Trainer cards to counter Paralysis, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks such cards. The core effect remains the same: one turn of immobilization.

Pokémon with Paralysis Abilities

Pokémon with Paralysis

Currently, only three cards in the Genetic Apex expansion inflict Paralysis: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each relies on a coin flip, making consistent Paralysis application challenging.

Curing Paralysis

Curing Paralysis

Four methods exist to remove Paralysis:

  1. Time: The effect automatically ends at the start of your next turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon immediately cures it.
  3. Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the condition (as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers a specific counter (affecting Weezing or Muk).

Building a Paralyze Deck

Sample Paralyze Deck

Paralysis alone is not a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Sleep, however, can be effective. A suggested combination uses Articuno & Frosmoth, leveraging their attacks and the combined effects of Paralysis and Sleep. A sample decklist is provided to illustrate this strategy.

Sample Paralyze/Sleep Decklist

Card Quantity
Wigglypuff ex 2
Jigglypuff 2
Snom 2
Frosmoth 2
Articuno 2
Misty 2
Sabrina 2
X Speed 2
