The inclusion of familiar bosses, Ishizaki explained, served a crucial purpose in enriching the gameplay experience. The diverse boss lineup was essential for the expansion's new structure and style. Leveraging established, beloved bosses provided a robust and varied challenge while acknowledging player familiarity and affection for these iconic encounters.
"We didn't want to encroach too much on the lore aspect," Ishizaki stated. The focus remains on the Night Lord, the expansion's primary antagonist, and its potential connections to the broader Elden Ring narrative. The presence of legacy bosses, while potentially fun for players, is not intended to heavily influence the overarching lore.

Nightreign currently boasts confirmed appearances from the Nameless King (Dark Souls 3) and the Centipede Demon (Dark Souls). The Duke's Dear Freja (Dark Souls 2) is strongly suspected, based on visual clues in the trailer.
The Nameless King, Gwyn's firstborn, presents a formidable challenge in Dark Souls 3, known for his lightning attacks and wind magic. The Centipede Demon, a multi-headed monstrosity from the original Dark Souls, is associated with the Flame of Chaos. The Duke's Dear Freja, a massive spider, is the speculated pet of Duke Tseldora.
