Marvel Rivals developers address datamining rumors: No intentional trolling, just a lot of ideas.
Dataminers have been uncovering a treasure trove of potential future characters within Marvel Rivals' code, sparking debate about the authenticity of these finds. Some believe the developers are intentionally misleading them, while others remain optimistic.
Recently, Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu and Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo clarified the situation. While acknowledging the presence of various character concepts and prototypes in the game's code, they emphatically denied any deliberate attempt to troll the community. Wu explained that the extensive design process, involving numerous concepts and prototypes, inevitably leaves traces in the code. The inclusion of a character in future updates depends heavily on player feedback and the overall game balance.
Koo likened the situation to finding a discarded notebook filled with brainstorming notes, emphasizing the experimental nature of the development process. He stated unequivocally, "No. We would rather spend our time developing the actual game."
The article also delves into the character selection process. Updates are planned approximately a year in advance, aiming for a new character release every six weeks. NetEase prioritizes balancing the roster and adding variety, considering character types and skill sets. They submit potential additions to Marvel Games, factoring in community interest and upcoming Marvel projects (films, comics). This explains the extensive list of characters found in the code – a reflection of NetEase's ongoing brainstorming and experimentation.
With the upcoming addition of Human Torch and The Thing on February 21st, Marvel Rivals continues to impress. The conversation with Wu and Koo also touched upon the possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 release (details available in a separate article).
